2006 CAPAM International Innovations Awards ProgrammeThe CAPAM International Innovations Awards Programme is a biennial award given to organizations from across the Commonwealth that have contributed a significant innovation to public administration and management. The award is announced at the CAPAM Biennial Conference. In 2006, this conference took place in October in Sydney, Australia. The theme of the 2005-2006 CAPAM International Innovations Awards was " Citizen Engagement and Service Delivery." This theme was selected to elicit examples of innovative practices in providing public services that respond to the expressed needs and wishes of citizens and/or enable enhanced public participation in decisions surrounding service delivery. ICCS was honoured to be named one of the ten finalists of the 2006 CAPAM International Innovations Awards. Submissions were judged by an international jury and the winners were presented with gold, silver or bronze awards at the closing dinner of the CAPAM Biennial Conference. The jury evaluated each submission based on the following set of criteria: effectiveness; innovation; relevance; significance; replicability; and, appropriateness to context. CAPAM received 112 submissions from 13 countries from across the Commonwealth including Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Malta, South Africa and Singapore. The innovations ranged from projects affecting local communities, such as health services, water management and customer care systems, to providing information and communication technology to remote areas, and using cell phone technology in medical service administration.
